The one thing people should stop talking about right now: results from health studies. Two months ago, I’d had enough. I couldn’t bear people quoting vague research studies to diss the things I love. So I scoured the news wires and Internet to collect an arsenal of studies tailormade for me.
Here’s to enlightenment!
Dark chocolate finds a place in my heart: It so happens that chocolate is one of the many things you’ll find in my bag (one little square every other day). Most studies promised me that it minimises the risk of heart disease. But one burst my chocolate bubble! There is no real proof of it being good for anything.
I can drink as much coffee as I want: You know how they always told you that coffee causes acidity? “Switch to tea, beta”, “Arre, drink only decaf.” My favourite study says that I can glug several cups a day because it can significantly cut the risk of bowel tumours. Also, a cup of coffee with breakfast can reduce pain triggered by spending hours at your office computer. I’m now comfortably numb.
It’s okay to snore: For the snorer, not the bedmate, that is. Researchers have ruled out snoring as a factor in mortality or risk of cardiovascular disease risks. But sleep disruptions may be among the earliest indicators of Alzheimer’s. So off to bed! Fat can be fit: I was once fat. Maybe I was more fit then? Turns out, nearly half of overweight people are at no greater risk of heart disease or cancer than their slim peers. The key is being ‘metabolically fit’– no high blood pressure, cholesterol or raised blood sugar levels. And regular exercise.
Hitch or miss?
While I was under the impression that working couples must share household work to ensure a happy married life, a study states that couples that share household work are more likely to divorce! And if you’re saving sex for your wedding night, a study found that couples who have sex before marriage are less likely to have long and happy relationships. Am I better off single then? Perhaps.
