Stana Katic, who plays sexy NYPD cop Kate Beckett on the hit TV series Castle, is having a fantastic year. Katic has been signed on for Ashok Amritraj’s espionage thriller,
The Double, starring Richard Gere and Martin Sheen even as Castle popularity returns for a third season.

“The movie is set in the period of the cold war between USA and the Soviet Union,” she reveals on the phone, long distance from Los Angeles. “I play a Russian prostitute. It’s a great role, and the film has a fantastic cast. Shooting for it will be fun!”

The actress hasn’t been able to meet the producer yet though. “We’ve had near-misses each time he’s in town,” she giggles melodically, while asking to be excused for her “sing-song manner of speaking”. “But Ashok sent me a sweet gift, welcoming me to the movie. I’m looking forward to meeting him.”

India Love
Amritraj’s movie is not the only connection Katic has to India. The star of films like The Spirit, Feast of Love and Quantum of Solace, has also acted in the TV crime drama, 24, which also featured Anil Kapoor. And Katic is ga-ga about his performance.

“He was brilliant in 24 and Slumdog Millionaire,” she gushes. “India has a great pool of acting talent, which was obvious in this unbelievable movie, Jodhaa Akbar, that I watched the other day. I am jealous of my contemporaries, who’ve had the opportunity to act in your movies. ”

“Bollywood is the world’s largest self-sustaining industry. You don’t need Hollywood,” she continues, adding that she is “dying to visit India. I sent my brother to India as a gift on his graduation, and he brought back this beautiful anklet that Indian dancers wear. I experienced India through his stories, but I really want to come too.”

The actress, who admits that she’s a cross between Kate Beckett and Nikki Heat, her literary avatar in Castle, is also looking forward to the Indian audiences’ reaction to Castle’s second season finale.

When asked if Beckett and Richard Castle, played by Nathan Fillion, get together this season, she laughs, “Isn’t that the big question? I can only reveal that Beckett and Castle come closer to each other than ever before. I’d like there to be some mystery for you!”
