Come 2011, and the Indian Premier League will be bigger. On Tuesday, the IPL Governing Council announced the addition of two new franchises as well as an increase in the number of matches to 94. “There’ll be 94 games in all with each franchise playing 18 preliminary matches,
instead of 14 games as in the past,” said IPL commissioner Lalit Modi.

The 2010 edition, however, will see the addition of just one match: a play-off for the third and fourth places.

Nagpur, Ahmedabad, Visakhapatnam and Dharamsala have been added as new venues.

The Indian Cricket League players who recently accepted an amnesty offer from the Board of Control for Cricket in India will be up for participation in 2010.

The rider: there will be a salary cap of Rs. 20 lakh for them.
