A day after Sunil Gavaskar backed Virat Kohli to succeed MS Dhoni as Test captain, veteran cricketer Bishan Singh Bedi endorsed the view, saying the Indian skipper is too defensive as a leader. “He was never a Test skipper. He is far too negative, especially while setting fields. His
success had a lot to do with providence,” the former Indian skipper told HT. “It is time to throw Kohli into the deep end.”

The member of the spin quartet attacked the performance of the Indian spinners during the series defeat against England.

"They look more like four-over bowlers. How many of them have been bowling 40-45 overs in Ranji Trophy? That is where you hone the skills."

Former chief selector K Srikkanth also called for Dhoni's removal as captain. A few days ago, 1983 World Cup hero Mohinder Amarnath had revealed that Dhoni was on the verge of being axed after the Australia debacle, but was saved by the BCCI bosses.

But Rahul Dravid said he does not see any alternative to Dhoni at the moment. “I don’t really see a viable alternative,” Dravid told the website, espncricinfo.com. “I really think Dhoni can be the man to take India forward if he has the energy, passion and the enjoyment to do it.”
