Jain University, Bangalore pipped hosts Jamia Millia by two runs to clinch the Toyota University T20 championship on Sunday night.
The 19-year-old Shreyas Gopal's all-round excellence made the difference in the end for the Bangalore outfit. Gopal lashed an unbeaten 83 and then
grabbed two wickets bowling leg-spin to keep Jamia in check on a sluggish pitch. Gopal, who was declared the Man-of-the-match, struck eight fours in his 62-ball knock. Kaunain Abbas contributed a patient 45-ball 33.
Needing five runs to win off the last ball, Jamia could manage only two runs, leaving the delirious Jain players celebrating by collectively doing push-ups on the ground. Two of the host batsmen, Shivam Sharma (35) and Surinder Dahiya (31) got set only to be dismissed which left the home team, cheered by a large crowd, in disappointment in the end.
