A woman was trampled to death and another injured by an elephant in Gumla district of Jharkhand on Thursday.
The 65-year-old woman and her neighbour were in a field at Gonmar village when the pachyderm attacked them, the police said.
The elephant had strayed into the village
earlier this week and efforts were on to drive it animal back to the forest.
The forest department gave Rs. 10,000 to the family of the dead as per provisions, official sources said.
