If you want to get in touch with the diverse crafts of India, then a walk through the museums of Sanskriti Foundation in the city might prove to be the ideal fix for you. The foundation houses three museums — the museum of Indian Terracotta, Indian Textiles and Everyday Art.  Most
of the artworks are created by artisans invited by O.P. Jain, founder, Sanskriti Foundation, at the premises itself instead of transporting them from different Indian states. The museum is replenished on a regular basis with the creations of these artisans. “The craftsmen can also create a piece of art as per your specifications,” says Jolly Rohatagi, a crafts researcher, who will be conducting a walk through the museums on March 3.

While the terracotta museum has pottery items from 14 states of the country, the everyday art museum has objects like lamps, pen holders, Gadolna (walker), lotas (water containers), rolling pins and chowkis (low stools) from across India. At the Indian textiles museum, you can go through different types of yarns, such as bagh, phulkari, kalamkari, khadi and tussar, as well as learn about embroidery techniques.

“Earlier, it was only foreigners who would visit museums and cultural heritage sites, but we were surprised when we got many youngsters interested in the Sanskriti Museum,” says Namita Anand, founder of Get Alive, which has organised the walk.
