College students
Grueling and endless rehearsals have become a routine for students gearing up for the upcoming cultural fests at their colleges, at the University of Delhi.

Even though some of these festivals are being held on the same day, the students seem hardly bothered. While the organisers are
confident of a significant footfall, the participants don’t seem unnerved, and are ready for the events to be unraveled, as per schedule.
The annual cultural fests of Jesus and Mary College, Montage, Sri Venkateswara College’s Nexus, Miranda House’s Tempest and Daulat Ram College’s Manjari, are  to take place from February 23 to 25.

“It’s a pure coincidence that the dates are same. I think it might be due to lack of coordination. The three big events, the highlight of Tempest, are not clashing with the important events of any other fest, so I don’t think it really makes a difference,” says Daisy, the president of the Student’s Union of Miranda House.

Sri Venkateswara College is also ready to vouch for the presence of it’s loyal fan base and the issue of clashing dates does not seem to affect them.

“The events have been scheduled keeping in mind the earlier response of students. So we are hopeful that there will be a huge turnout,” says a union member. The college has also introduced a pass system which allows the pass holder to get three to four guests to the fest.

Jesus and Mary College too is relaxed, as they claim that a slew of innovative competitions will be crowd-pullers. The organisers have slotted a national-level debating competition as a part of the fest.

“Montage 2012 will be bigger this year with more rides, stalls for games like dart, bowling and a number of walk-in events like paintball, T-shirt painting competition, and much more. So we are not bothered with the conflict of dates at all,” says Monica Gupta, vice president of student’s union, Jesus and Mary College.
