Galleries apart, art forms a vital part of decor now, and this exhibition in the city celebrates just that. Merging art and decor, Zynna - Art Deco, aims at bringing art, in the form of paintings and sculptures, into the lives and homes of one and all.
While achieving that, the motive
is also to help people understand art better. The showcase features works by some of the country’s celebrated artists including Jai Zharotia, Mimi Radhakrishnan, Nilanjana Nandy, Rajiv Kumar, Vijayata, Chand Mohammed, Ritu Kamath, Murali Cheeroth, Annu Naik, Atul Bakshi and Sonia Rodrigues Sabharwal. “These artworks resonate my thinking. All of them are close to my heart. Also, the focus is that artworks don’t necessarily need to be high-priced,” says Retesh Sharma of decor brand Zynna, and an art connoisseur himself.
Their studio now boasts of an individual art gallery. Explaining its need, Sharma says: “When we thought of art, we could not find any good gallery in Gurgaon. There’s a vacuum when it comes to art and Gurgaon. So, we thought of incorporating an art gallery, which was inaugurated yesterday, in our studio.” A showcase of fabrics, wallpapers, chandeliers, wall murals and blinds from known European and American brands will also be hosted at the studio.
Coming back to the aim of making people understand art better, a workshop cum lecture titled, Art and Indulgence, will be organised by art curator Arunima Subramaniam, today. “Most people don’t understand the nuances of what to pick and why. We want to broaden their understanding of aesthetics, design, colour and perspectives,” says Sharma.
The session will be followed by an interaction with participating artists.
