Polka dots, long sidelocks, bell-bottoms, flowery shirts and huge sunglasses. That’s Akshay Kumar’s look in the Diwali release,
Action Replayy, opposite Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. The film rewinds to the 1970s and Kumar admits that he has borrowed the locks and clothes from Sunil
Dutt’s
Zakhmee.
When asked why he didn’t model his look on his father-in-law, Rajesh Khanna, who was the ‘Phenomenon’ of the decade, the 43-year-old actor reasons, “I’d rather model myself on one star instead of presenting a bhel-puri of five-six popular matinee idols. Yes, my father-in-law was an icon but Duttsaab’s look gelled better in this case.”
Buzz is that Akshay Kumar changed the look of the character in the promos. He retorts, “Right, I’ve progressed from snipping my co-actors’ roles to cutting promos too.”
Kumar says that he would like to go back to the colourful ’70s to witness his parents’ wedding. “That’s every child’s dream. You want to watch your parents fall in love, right? ” he says.
The actor would also like to remake Sangharsh, co-starring Preity Zinta. “It was a fantastic story, I’d like a chance to polish it,” he says.
He admitted that he was watching Khatron Ke Khiladi 3 on Colors. He had hosted two seasons of the stunt show. The new host is Priyanka Chopra. “She’s good,” he says. “But I miss being on the stunt scene.”
