Director Sajid Khan believes that talent from the 1970s and 1980s should not be forgotten and continues to be relevant even today. Which is why, after getting Shabbir Kumar to sing I don’t know what to do in Housefull (2010), he has roped in the talented Amit Kumar (Kishore Kumar’s son) to sing
the reprise of Naino mein sapna, the famous matka song from the original, which also features on the poster of the new Himmatwala.
Kishore Kumar was born as Abhas Kumar Ganguly at Khandwa in Madhya Pradesh.
Sajid says, “Although my film, Himmatwala, is radically different from the 1983 version, there are certain elements from the original, which I want to preserve. One was casting a south actor, hence we chose Tamannaah Bhatia. The other was to keep the two iconic songs from the film, Taaki re taaki and Naino mein sapna. I recorded the former three months ago with Mika but for the latter, I wanted someone who sounded similar to Kishore Kumar.”
During the music sittings, Sajid Khan and music directors Sajid-Wajid were debating about the singers, as the original featured the voices of Lata Mangeshkar and Kishore Kumar. “Eventually, Shreya Ghoshal was chosen for the female voice and we decided to get Amit Kumar to sing the male part. Believe me, when he sang, we had goosebumps. His voice has matured and he sounds exactly like his father. I hope other filmmakers will also rope him in for their films; he is the closest we can come to Kishore Kumar.”
Sajid has bought the rights to both the songs from the film and has recreated the music with an orchestra and fresh lyrics, keeping the tune and the first two lines of the song intact.
