Bollywood veteran Amitabh Bachchan, who was honoured with a cash prize of Rs. 2.5 lakh in community leadership by the South Indian Education Society (SIES) on Tuesday, decided to donate it to Delhi police constable Subash Chand Tomar who died after succumbing to his injuries during the
anti-gangrape protest at India Gate in New Delhi on Sunday.

He expressed disappointment over the incident and hoped the government would change its laws to punish culprits who commit crimes against women.

"I hope that she recovers. I hope the system changes its laws to punish such terrible culprits who indulge in violence against women," he said.

He also said women are half the strength of the country.

"I always believed that women are half the strength of this country. They are 50% of our strength. Women should be given dignity and value in our society," the actor said.
