Bollywood babes to begums

Who doesn’t remember Halle Berry’s famous coral bikini scene in the 2002 James Bond hit Die Another Day or Jennifer Aniston going full monty in the comedy flick The Good Girl (2002)? And of course, Jack aka Leonardo DiCaprio sketching Rose alias Kate Winslet’s nude portrait in the 1997 classic, Titanic? Well, what’s common between all these Hollywood actors is that all of them were either married or committed when they shot these scenes.

However, back home, our own Bollywood divas prefer to cover up once they change their status from Miss to Missus. For instance, Kareena Kapoor has reportedly rejected director Tigmanshu Dhulia's upcoming film, Begum Samru, as it contained a lot of body exposure and now that Bebo’s turned Begum herself, looks like it’s not her cup of tea anymore. Kareena, who in post-marriage interviews had said she wouldn’t mind doing intimate scenes, has now backed out. Dhulia had also approached Rani Mukerji for the role, but Rani, who is reportedly in a committed relationship with filmmaker Aditya Chopra, has also rejected his offer. “I don’t think any of the top actresses in our country would be comfortable with the nudity in Begum Samru,” Dhulia was quoted as saying.

This trend isn’t new. In 2006, Amitabh Bachchan reportedly got the kissing scene between Aishwarya Rai and Hrithik Roshan axed from Dhoom 2, as Ash was engaged to his son Abhishek.

However, there are exceptions to this rule. Married actors such as Vidya Balan, Chitrangda Singh and Aditi Rao Hydari haven’t let their ‘married’ tag affect their choice of roles.

While Singh was seen doing some intimate scenes in her debut film Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi (2005), Hydari’s numerous kisses with Arunoday Singh in Yeh Sali Zindagi made news in 2011. Balan, who did The Dirty Picture (2012) while dating now husband Siddharth Roy Kapoor, followed it up with some intimate scenes in Ghanchakkar (2013), after her marriage.
