Bombay Talkies brings together four big directors, Dibakar Banerjee, Anurag Kashyap, Zoya Akhtar and Karan Johar. The film has generated a lot of curiosity as it is a compilation of four short films made by these renowned filmmakers. Though, the makers want the audiences to watch the film in theatres, their intention is not to earn huge profits at the box office (BO).
Bombay Talkies features four short films shot by Karan Johar, Zoya Akhtar, Anurag Kashyap and Dibakar Banerjee. Take a look!
Dibakar, for one, is not trying to create a storm at the BO. “We are doing this film to mark an occasion in history and because no one else has done anything similar. It was not made to set the box office on fire,” says the director. Though, the film was never made to make profits, it could become an example for producers on how to work with limited money. “The budget of Bombay Talkies is only R6 crore. So, for a film like this to be a financial success is not a big deal. It’s a hit even if it only releases,” says Dibakar.
Dibakar also points out another element that will help the film get more viewers. “People who want to see my, Karan, Zoya or Anurag’s films, will have to come to the theatre only once. I will get Karan’s audience and Karan will get mine. And the same goes for Anurag and Zoya. I think it’s a very successful formula,” says the Oye Lucky! Lucky Oye! (2008) director.
