films for this year.
All their releases are set to hit screens in the coming months, but there seems to be no rivalry between them.
In fact, these guys share an amazing camaraderie. At our exclusive shoot organised at a suburban bar, they joked, laughed, discussed their films and got on like a house on fire.
Neeraj Pandey, director of Special 26, was one of the first to arrive. Soon, Abhinav Singh Kashyap, who has just wrapped up a schedule of Besharam, starring Ranbir Kapoor, joined him.
“If the poster is so colourful, you can imagine how vibrant the film will be,” said Abhinav. Both directors then got into a discussion over the nitty-gritties of post-production.
Rohit Shetty has been busy shooting Chennai Express with Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone in Wai. But the Golmaal maker made it back in town in time for our shoot. Visibly tired, he curled up on a couch before the shoot began. About his film, he said, “It’s too early to comment, but it will be a hardcore commercial film.”
Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra chose to hang out in the outdoor section for a bit, before joining Neeraj and Abhinav. “I’ve been told that the teaser trailer of my film, Bhaag Milkha Bhaag, has made people curious,” said Rakeysh, while praising his lead actor Farhan Akhtar for his “dedication”.
Milan Luthria, director of the upcoming Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai 2 (OUATIM 2), and Sanjay Gupta, director of Shootout At Wadala, were slightly delayed due to the “maddening traffic” and apologised for keeping the others waiting. Sanjay got into a discussion with Rakeysh and Abhinav, saying, “After seven years, I’ve returned to direction and my film doesn’t feature a R100 cr hero. If it’s still an anticipated film, I’m happy.”
Milan, who last made The Dirty Picture, says, “I feel happy as well as nervous about expectations from my film. But I can assure you of some career-defining performances.”
