From winning the Miss Asia Pacific title at the age of 19 to becoming an actor and now a producer, Dia Mirza has come a long way.
Dia, who produced as well as acted in Love Breakups Zindagi in 2011, says that production is her priority at the moment. “We are working on three projects whose scripts are ready. They are beautiful human stories which are relatable and yet entertaining. We will soon be finalising the cast,” says Dia, adding that she would love to cast actors Vidya Balan,
Huma Qureshi and Richa Chadha in her forthcoming productions.
Does that mean that she is bidding goodbye to acting? “Honestly, my whole attention right now is my on production company. I did get acting offers, but nothing excited me. I’ve given my shot to acting. I gave a good 10 years to acting. My horizons are widening and this all hasn’t crushed me. I will always be part of cinema. I will not destroy my self esteem by being part of projects that I don’t feel proud of,” says Dia, who is planning to tie the knot to filmmaker beau Sahil Sangha next year.
Interestingly, Dia reveals that she fought with filmmaker Anurag Basu for not casting her in Ileana’s (D’cruz) role in last year’s superhit Barfi!. “When I saw the film, I fought with dada (Anurag). I told him that I wish that he would have cast me. But, we both share a great rapport,” she says.
