Dilip Kumar recovering, might be discharged in 2-3 days

Legendary actor Dilip Kumar is recovering fast and will be out after two-three days. But, he is under a strict medical observation in Lilavati Hospital’s at present.

Kumar, 90,  was admitted to hospital on Sunday when he complained of breathlessness. Hospital press release said that Dilip Kumar had suffered a myocardial infarction (heart attack). Treatment, as per protocol, is being instituted.

"He (Dilip Kumar) is doing fine. He is recovering, but is under observation... there is nothing to worry. He will be there in hospital for two-three (more) days," sources close to the actor said.

The hospital stated, "In view of his advanced age and post-bypass status, he needs close monitoring in the ICU.”    The veteran actor had undergone a heart surgery 14 years ago, his wife Saira Banu said.

Dilip Kumar was born Muhammad Yusuf Khan on December 11, 1922, in Peshawar (now in Pakistan).

With a film career spanning six decades, he was the first to receive Filmfare Best Actor honour when the awards were started in 1954. With eight wins, Dilip Kumar shares with Shah Rukh Khan the record for the most number of Filmfare awards won in that category.

The legendary actor acted in films like Andaz (1949), Aan (1952), Devdas (1955), Azaad (1955), Mughal-e-Azam (1960), Ganga Jamuna (1961) as a hero. He played character roles in movies like Shakti (1982), Karma (1986) and Saudagar (1991). His last film was Qila (1998).

He was honoured with the Padma Bhushan in 1991 and the Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 1994 for his outstanding contribution to Indian cinema.

He was also nominated to Rajya Sabha for a term from 2000 to 2006.

In 1998, he was awarded the Nishan-e-Imtiaz, the highest civilian award conferred by the government of Pakistan.
