Over the past few years, she has tried her hand at all sorts of different genres except out-and-out action. But now, producer Ekta Kapoor will go down that route with one of her upcoming yet-untitled biggies.
In fact, she has already roped in Murder 2 (2011) director Mohit Suri to helm the project.
“For a long time, Ekta wanted to make an action movie on the lines of Ghajini (2005). She is clear in her mind that the film should have a gripping storyline and doesn’t want her action film to be a mindless venture. That’s why she is in no hurry to start the project,” says an insider close to the development.
In the past, Ekta has had her tryst with action in films like Shootout At Lokhandwala (2007) and Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai (2010). “But they can’t be called ‘action’ films. She’s looking at a project that is over-the-top, tough and macho.
At the moment, there’s no story, but the film will start in mid-2013,” adds the insider.
As for the casting, Ekta is sure that she wants to work with a young man and not any of the existing action stars.
“She wants all the sequences to look natural and energetic with a lot of hand-to-hand combat and rugged stunts, and feels a young actor would be able to do full justice to the film,” adds the insider.
Although Ishaqzaade star Arjun Kapoor’s name has been doing the rounds, insiders say that no one has been cast yet.
“The story will be finalised in a week’s time. Only then will she approach an actor. But Ekta wants an established young actor, she isn’t looking at launching a new face,” says the insider.
When contacted, Ekta only says: “We will announce our projects at the right time. It’s too early to talk about any of them.”
