Writer Shagufta Rafique is keen to cast actor Emraan Hashmi (far right) or actor Ajay Devgn in an action thriller, which will be her directorial debut.
Shagufta started her career as a writer with Bhatt camp production company Vishesh Films with the film Woh Lamhe and has been part of the company in the capacity of a dialogue writer and screenplay writer for films like Aawarapan, Raaz 2, Jism 2, Murder 2, Raaz 3, Aashiqui 2 and others. And now she would be wielding the megaphone.
Emraan has been the poster boy of Bhatt camp. And he is the obvious first choice for Shagufta. “He (Emraan) is my first choice for the film. I have told him that I am directing a film and would like to have him in the movie. He is quite ok with it and has asked me to narrate the story. He is not in town... I am waiting for him to come back then will narrate the script to him,” says Shagufta.
If things don’t work out with Emraan, then Shagufta is keen to cast either actor Ajay Devgn or actor Akshay Kumar.
“I want someone who has a lot of anger to express on screen. I am also thinking of Ajay Devgn and Akshay Kumar. I feel they portray anger very well on screen. I haven’t approached them, as they are just on my wish list. I will approach these three actors. It is a solo hero and heroine film,” says Shagufta.
She has been working on this film since four years or so, and insists she can’t take the risk of making an action-thriller film with newcomers. “I feel action films do not go well with newcomers. Audience want to enjoy when their hero beats up the bad guy on big screen. I think love stories always works with newcomers, but action-thriller films needs some names, I can’t take a risk with newcomers,” she says.
“My film is an action thriller. The thriller element is backed with a strong love story, and action will come whenever it is required. It’s a new story, which has never been done in India. It has been liked by the producers, and hence I am doing it,” she adds.
The film will be backed by Reliance Entertainment and filmmaker Pooja Bhatt. It is likely to go on floors by the end of this year.
