Actor Rajesh Khanna, who died on Wednesday, was suffering from a chronic liver ailment. Two days ago, he was discharged from Lilavati hospital, and he passed away at his residence, Ashirwad, in Bandra.
The actor's condition had been deteriorating since April when he stopped eating
and complained of weakness. He was admitted to the hospital for nearly two weeks after complaining of exhaustion and uneasiness. Last Saturday, he was re-admitted and discharged on Monday.
Lilavati hospital officials have been tight-lipped about Khanna's condition as his family had requested confidentiality.
"Since Khanna was not admitted to the hospital when he died, we cannot comment on his condition. In any case, the family has asked us not to talk to the media about his ailment," said Dr Sudhir Dagaonkar, spokesperson of Lilavati hospital.
"His vital parameters measuring heart, kidney and other functions showed that he was not doing very well," said a source from the hospital. Khanna's estranged wife, Dimple Kapadia and daughters, Twinkle and Rinkie took care of him when he was admitted to the hospital.
