She has choreographed a string of hit songs in Bollywood. And now, as filmmaker Farah Khan steps in front of the camera in Bela Segal’s Shirin Farhad Ki Nikal Padi, she herself is set to do a “goofy and quirky” jig in the Sanjay Leela Bhansali production.
“Yes, Sanjay and Bela (Sanjay’s
sister) are quite obsessed with the idea of me doing a dance sequence. But rest assured, it will be done according to the age and mindset of my character,” confirms Farah, who plays a 40-year-old Parsi spinster in the movie.
“Shirin is a little eccentric and a bit of firecracker. I will keep the character in mind and do the song,” she says, adding that sequence will feature her along with co-star Boman Irani.
But Farah isn’t keen on directing the song herself. “I should get someone else to choreograph me. Already, there are a lot of things to worry about, including false nails, hair, make-up, heels, costumes, lines and movements,” she says.
The Tees Maar Khan (2010) director is currently trying to convince the makers to push the song’s schedule for after the film’s shooting. “Maybe, I will talk like a typical heroine and say, ‘I should lose loose some weight before doing the song,’” she says, laughing.
Farah, who has directed hits like Main Hoon Na (2004) and Om Shanti Om (2007) in the past, accepts that it will be difficult to do both the things — acting and choreographing — together. “It will be nice if someone else monitors what I am doing. So, I want somebody who can at least look at the monitor and see if I am doing it properly or if I need to do it again,” she says.
Ask her, if she plans to rope in assistant Geeta Kapoor and she says: “I will get someone whom I am comfortable with. Besides Geeta, Longinus (of Slumdog Millionaire, 2008, fame) is also there. He was an assistant for a long time before she joined.”
