Sona Mohapatra's voice can often be heard wafting through open car windows on red lights and traffic jams. Her very hummable number - Ambarsariya from Fukrey has been topping all the music charts on-air and online.  But does it seem all too familiar?

The song sounds suspiciously similar to the shabad “Mehran waleya saiyan rakhi charna de kol” sung by Bhai Harbans Singh Ji.

The lyrics are adapted from a popular Punjabi folk song, however, the tune seems to emanate from another source.

In fact, the line "Ambarsariya, mundeya ve kachiyan kaliyan na tod" even rhymes perfectly with the shabad's title line.

Tell us if you hear what we hear! Here's the shabad.

And Ambarsariya for you to compare.

About Fukrey

Anupama Chopra gave Fukrey 3 stars calling it, "a genial romp about four lower middle-class boys in Delhi who embark upon a harebrained scheme to raise money." Read her full review HERE.
