It is the season of remakes. SS Rajamouli’s Telugu film Maryada Ramanna’s Bollywood version Son Of Sardaar will hit theatres next month. Now Magadheera, another hit by the director, is also set to be adapted.
And although filmmaker-producer Anurag Kashyap, who has bought the rights to the film has been reported saying that actor Ranveer Singh would fit the lead role best, Rajamouli chooses to differ. He believes that Hrithik Roshan would make a great hero in this film. “This is a mass film and it can suit any hero. But I think Hrithik is the best choice,” says Rajamouli.
Reportedly, the producers had initially decided to rope in director Abhinay Deo to helm the remake, but the plan eventually fell through. Rajamouli, too, is reluctant to re-direct the Hindi remake. “I spent two years of my life making Magadheera Now, I can’t spend another two years to make it again in Hindi. It doesn’t make sense. I would rather make a new film in that period,” he says.
However, he will soon venture into Bollywood. “I’m planning to make a bilingual film. The script is in a nascent stage,” says Rajamouli, whose vernacular hit Eega is releasing in Hindi as Makkhi on October 12.
