I’m thrilled at the response: Divya Dutta

After portraying an array of challenging roles, Divya Dutta has signed a lesbian movie Monica where she will romance Kitu Gidwani.
She’s known best for playing supporting roles in movies — be it her part as a conniving daughter-in-law in Baghban (2003) or her portrayal of a loving teacher in Stanley Ka Dabba (2011). However, over the years, Divya Dutta has managed to leave a lasting impression on the audiences’ minds. “I'm
glad that I’m not a stereotypical actor. I have the freedom to choose the roles I want,” she says. “Rarely do actors like me get a chance to work with such a variety of directors across such diverse genres. Whether lead roles or parallel parts, I want my performance to have an impact on the viewers.”
Ask her about her role as Kareena Kapoor’s publicist in Madhur Bhandarkar’s Heroine and Divya says with a smile, “I'm thrilled at the response I’m getting. I never do any research for my roles. Madhur explained to me the kind of character he had in mind and that’s the guideline I followed. I'm happy that people have loved my performance.” She adds, “Madhur was one of the main reasons I took up the film. Also, this is my third film with UTV and I guess we're lucky for each other.”
Ask her what’s next in the pipeline and she says, “I have Bhaag Milkha Bhaag with Farhan Akhtar, Lootera starring Ranveer Singh and Sanjay Dutt’s Zilla Ghaziabad coming up.” Divya, who celebrates her birthday tomorrow, is also writing a book.” It’s a fictional book with a lot of my own experiences added to it. I started writing it six months ago and hopefully I will be able to release it by next year,” she says.
