All the buzz from the IIFA awards.
As expected, the 14th IIFA awards was a glitzy event with Bollywood's biggest stars gracing the red carpet and the ceremony. Check out the highlights and the glamour quotient at the IIFA 2013 that was held at The Venetian hotel in Macau.
Shah Rukh turns left-handed
Shah Rukh Khan took off his sling while attending the IIFA Rocks & Technical Awards on Friday night. He looked uncomfortable using his right hand. When SRK was called on stage to present a couple of
awards, he held the trophies in his left hand and used the same hand to congratulate other winners. He applauded stage performances with his right hand though.
Anurag Basu misses Ranbir and Priyanka
Director Anurag Basu, who attended the IIFA Awards in Macao for his last hit Barfi! (2012), said that he would have loved to have his protagonists Ranbir Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra at the grand event. “I’m really missing Ranbir and Priyanka. They should have been here to receive the honour after such unprecedented performance in my film,” he says. Anurag attended the IIFA Rocks & Technical Awards on Friday night.
Wedding bells for Dia
When asked about her plans to marry boyfriend Sahil Sangha, Dia Mirza says, “It will happen next year.” Teasing him she says, “Sahil makes me look good whenever we are together." To which Sahil was quick to retort, jokingly, “No, it is she who makes me look good. I am the beast and she is the beauty.”
When Javed Akhtar got angry
While hosting the show, both Boman Irani and Vir Das were in a playful mood. This year, the IIFA organisers have added a social cause, women’s empowerment, to their event and as a result celebrities were wearing buttons that read ‘Power of 49’.
At one point, Boman and Vir asked the attendees what the button meant to them. They posed the question to Parineeti Chopra, Richa Chaddha, Huma Qureshi and Sonu Nigam but in a light vein. The duo even asked Javed Akhtar the same, but he didn’t take the question lightly saying, “I don't like the way you people are making fun of such an important issue of women empowerment. The issue is not frivolous, so please don't make it look like one.”
One for the family
During Arjun Kapoor’s performance, his dad Boney Kapoor, who was sitting in the front row along with daughters Khushi and Jhanvi, was very happy and clapped right till it ended. Interestingly, on the green carpet, Boney walked with Sridevi and their daughters just minutes before Arjun came in. The father-son duo didn’t bump into each other on the green carpet.
