Prabhudeva has had a successful run as a Bollywood director so far. He made his debut with the hit Salman Khan-starrer, Wanted, in 2009. Then in 2012, he made Rowdy Rathore, with Akshay Kumar and Sonakshi Sinha. Another action- comedy, his second film too was a success, and even entered the R100 crore club.
Now, the director is toying with another genre — romance. His next release will be Ramaiya Vastavaiya (RV), starring Shruti Haasan and debutant Girish Taurani. Here’s his take on working with the young actors and how the love story will do at the box-office.
After working with superstars like Salman Khan and Akshay Kumar, were you in two minds about casting a young actress and a rank newcomer?
My first criteria is that I should be excited about the film. RV excited me, and that’s the only reason why I am part of it. Girish is (producer) Kumar Taurani’s child, but I feel like he’s also my child. I want him to become popular after this film and make money like the other superstars of Bollywood. I hope he earns triple the money that he’s earning for his debut film.
How are you expecting RV to perform at the box-office?
It’s the season of love in Bollywood. Aashiqui 2 and Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani have performed really well. The success of these films is a plus point for us. Romantic films are doing well, and I am confident that the audience will love our film the same way.
Are you still taking on choreography assignments?
Yes, I’m open to choreographing for films; even ones I am not directing.
Do you have plans to produce any Bollywood films?
No, I have no plans to turn producer. I’m happy being a director and I’m satisfied with my job. I have several films (lined up) right now, which I will complete one after the other.
What will you work on next, after RV?
I am currently shooting for Rambo Rajkumar (with Shahid Kapoor and Sonakshi Sinha). After that, I will start shooting for another film with Ajay Devgn.
