Some media reports have said that Kahaani director Sujoy Ghosh will no longer be a part of the sequel and has been replaced by filmmaker Kundan Shah. However, Ghosh has something contrary to say on Twitter.
When a fan put a direct question to Ghosh on Twitter, the director quipped: "Paagol naaki tui! bhool bhaal khobor poris keno?" (In English it reads thus: Are you mad? Why are you reading false news?
Bollywood Life on July 2 reported: "Sujoy Ghosh wrote a letter to Jayantilal Gada, CMD of PEN India Pvt Ltd and co-producer of Kahaani, demanding Rs. 35 crore for the sequel, in advance, which includes Rs. 28 crores as making cost, Ghosh’s remuneration and Rs. 7 crore for publicity. Ghosh has allegedly stated that PEN India will only finance Kahaani 2, but the music and satellite rights will rest with the filmmaker’s own company, Boundscript."
The portal quoted Sujoy Ghosh as saying: "An offer has been made to make the film together. If PEN accepts, we’ll go ahead. If not, I’ll have to look for someone else".
And it quotes Gada too: “As per our original agreement, Sujoy has no right to make Kahaani 2 without our consent. How can I accept things unconditionally?”
Bollywood Hungama reported: "Gada recently confirmed that he signed Kundan Shah of Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro fame to helm the sequel to Kahaani. Shah who also confirmed of signing the movie revealed that the second installment will not be a continuation to the prequel but an entirely different story. However the main idea of making it a woman-oriented film still remains the same".
Interestingly, Sujoy Ghosh too is not confirming or denying the news unequivocally. On Twitter, he also said this: "yo KAHAANI fans.. you have no idea how much love you gave to our film & us. so whatever i make next.. will honor that love. i promise you :)"
