Most Bollywood stars can’t stop gushing about their international assignments, but Kalki Koechlin kept her cameo in Michael Winterbottom’s Trishna a secret till the film’s premiere at the on-going IFFI festival in Goa.

“It’s only an international cameo. It isn’t a huge role to tom-tom
about,” she reasons. “I am even surprised they invited me for the premiere.” Kalki plays a Bollywood diva from Mumbai and is paired as husband Anurag Kashyap’s girlfriend in the film.

Kalki KoechlinShe admits she agreed to the cameo because it was giving her a chance to work with Michael. “I have seen his The Road to Guantanamo (2006) and have been a huge fan. I love the way his commercial films are made in a documentary style,” Kalki adds.

After the premiere Kalki even said that Trishna is not the kind of film with an Indian backdrop that one would expect from an offshore director. “He’s brought authenticity and kept the story-telling organic. It was a disturbing film, so hard hitting that I’m still recovering from it.” Kalki’s next has her playing a half-Brit-half Indian expatriate in Shanghai.
