After Kangna Ranaut chose not to be a part of director Abhishek Chaubey’s Dedh Ishqiya because of date issues, Huma Qureshi has been signed on for the role.

Dedh Ishqiya, the sequel to Ishqiya (2010) is set in the interiors of north India. It also stars Madhuri Dixit.

Ask Huma
about signing the film, and she says, “No comments. Let the producer make the announcement.” However, she recalls that her character in Gangs of Wasseypur (2011), was infatuated with Madhuri: “Personally too, I love her and have grown up watching her,” she says.

‘Excited to see naga sadhus’
Huma Qureshi, along with producer Ekta Kapoor and actor Emraan Hashmi, is all set to visit the Maha Kumbh mela. There, they will promote their upcoming film, Ek Thi Daayan (ETD), and even perform a yagna during their three-day stay.

“I’m very excited about going to Maha Kumbh, as the only reference I have of it is what I’ve seen in Hindi films in which parents, kids or siblings get lost and reunite years later,” says Huma. “It was a classic formula used in our films earlier. I’m glad that because of ETD, I will be able to experience the congregation of over two crore Indians and travel to Allahabad, a place I haven’t been to. I’m looking forward to seeing the naga sadhus and aghoris.”

What does she think will be her reaction when she meets a naga sadhu? “That’s a cheeky question,” she laughs. “I haven’t experienced anything remotely occult, so everything on this trip will be new for me.”

Talking about her role in ETD, she says, “I play Emraan’s love interest. It’s a supernatural thriller in which he plays a magician. I am very excited about this script.” Huma also denies that Emraan’s presence in the film means that intimate scenes and kisses are inevitable. She says, “The kind of films Emraan’s doing right now are different from those that he has done earlier. As an actor, I think he’s finally getting his due. He’s a wonderful, hard working guy. It’s a fantastic script and nothing like a kiss is added due to his image.”
