Director Anurag Kashyap
Vinil Mathew, who directed Karan Johar and Deepika Padukone in the popular Nescafe ad recently, will soon make his debut as a Bollywood filmmaker. And for the love story, Karan has decided to team up with the Anurag Kashyap-led production house, Phantom. “It’s going to be an exciting collaboration
since Anurag and I come from different schools of filmmaking. But we carry the same vision — of quality cinema,” says Karan.

Karan JoharIncidentally, Vinil has worked with many Bollywood actors like Vidya Balan and R Madhavan, who he directed in an Airtel commercial.

About Phantom, Karan says, “I have a lot of admiration for the production house since it has directors like Vikas Bahl, Vikramaditya Motwane and Anurag at the helm. I have had such exciting meetings with them, with all the directors discussing storylines, titles and other details of Vinil’s film.”

Kashyap, who shares a similar sentiment too, accepts that he and Karan have “radically different styles”. “But we have high regard for our individual spaces. Vinil’s story brought us to a common ground and since we both like the story and his direction, we decided to jointly produce it,” says Anurag.

Mathew’s yet-untitled film is expected to go on the floors in April. “The film is a quintessential love story that will feature a young cast. We will announce the names in a few days,” says Karan, adding that Mathew’s “nuanced approach” towards directing actors is his strong point. “The way he handles relationships in his ads is something you can’t ignore. And that is what he is doing in our film too,” adds Johar.
