Filmmaker Karan Johar has had a busy year — he recently judged a reality show, finished his first acting schedule with Ranbir Kapoor (in Bombay Talkies) and even promoted a new venture (he presented The Lunchbox). As a result, the director hasn’t had any time to concentrate on his own film. Now,
in order to return to what
he enjoys most, Karan has taken a month-long break to concentrate on the script of his next directorial venture. He is currently in New York, USA.
“He has been travelling abroad to work on his scripts since Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (1998). He gets too distracted and caught up in India, which is why he doesn’t find time to spend time on his own writing. That’s why he either goes to London or New York where no one can disturb him,” says an insider close to him.
Karan, who last directed Student Of The Year (besides a segment in Bombay Talkies) in 2012, plans to start shooting this directorial venture towards the end of 2014. But that doesn’t mean he doesn’t have other commitments to attend to as well. Karan, who is making his full-fledged acting debut with the Anurag Kashyap movie, will need to be present for the film’s next shooting schedule early next year.
On his return from the US, he will also resume work on the news season of his hit TV chat show, Koffee With Karan, in addition to another reality show which he has been roped in for. Karan, who is currently in New York, couldn’t be reached for a comment.
