In an attempt to advocate a healthy lifestyle, physicians and celebrities team up twice a year for the 21-Day Vegan Kickstart that urges participants across the world to switch to a plant-based diet. The next Kickstart India programme will flag off on June 4 and Mallika Sherawat has been approached
by the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine in Washington DC to be a celebrity coach. Along with nutritional webcasts and message boards, Kickstart provides recipes and suggestions for every meal on a daily basis. It asks its celebrity coaches to provide health tips and a few recipes.
Mallika, who recently visited Mumbai to shoot an item number, ‘Laila…’ for the upcoming action thriller Tezz, was voted the ‘Sexiest Vegan’ of 2011 by PETA along with South star Dhanush.
The duo scored over Amitabh Bachchan, Hema Malini, Kareena Kapoor, Shahid Kapoor and Sonu Sood. The actor has always attributed her good looks and figure to juices, coconut water, salads and fresh fruits, all of which are an integral part of her diet. She says that the best part about being a vegan is having ‘a clear conscience.’
Last year she featured in the second issue of the world’s first 3D magazine, WMB3D: World’s Most Beautiful, a Los Angeles- based print magazine published and photographed by celebrity lensman Nick Saglimbeni that has to be viewed through 3D glasses. She’s really happy with describing herself as an average-looking girl with a nose , she says, “Your looks are a God-given gift. I try to maintain them through a disciplined lifestyle. I've always been pro-fitness and advocated a vegan diet.”
Mallika is not only following a vegan diet but doesn’t smoke or drink either. She is also addicted to yoga and insists that her Mr Right will have to be all this and more: “There are plenty of suitors, even in Los Angeles, but when they learn that I go to bed at 9 pm and that I am a strict vegan, they say ‘Excuse me, do you live on fresh air?’”
