Singer Mika Singh’s song Ishq Ki Maa Ki, from director Amit Kasaria’s debut film I Don’t Love You, was leaked in July. The song became quite a rage in Uttar Pradesh.
After Pakistani pop singer Nazia Hasan’s hit ‘Disco deewane’ being remade for Karan Johar’s Student of the Year, another yesteryear hit is back in the spotlight. This time it’s Bangladeshi singer Runa Laila’s popular song, ‘Dama dam mast qalandar’. Director Nikhil Advani has acquired the
rights to the song and is set to use it for his next action film, D-Day. The song is being re-rendered by music composer trio Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy. Mika will sing it.

Shankar Mahadevan says, “We’ve done a scratch recording for it. It’s  a great song to dance to.”

Earlier, Himesh Reshammiya also borrowed a line from the song for his 2011 film, Damadamm! Shankar says that remaking a popular song immediately draws attention. “There are so many old melodies that we are bringing back, such as ‘Apni toh jaise taise’ (Housefull). It adds flavour to the film.”

Produced by Dar Motion Pictures, the film is about RAW agents who are sent to bring Dawood Ibrahim from Pakistan to India.
