Choreographing a song that was a chart-buster in its time is a task, but Farah Khan is happy with her efforts. The choreographer-filmmaker, who worked on the song ‘Tathaiya tathaiya’ from the original Himmatwala (1983) for Sajid Khan’s remake that releases on March 29, has managed to get Ajay Devgn to dance to her tune. The
song, which releases today, is one of two numbers for which the makers have purchased the original song’s rights (the other is ‘Taki oh taki’).

“The trick is to highlight their strengths and hide their weakness,” she says, when asked about choreographing a non-dancer like Ajay, adding, “But he wasn’t nervous. In fact, he gave all his shots in one take.”

Ask her how many steps from the original song she has retained in this version and she says, “On Sajid’s request, I kept the PT steps the same. But they worked for Ajay. I wanted to make sure that the song didn’t look like a spoof. So I watched a lot of other Jeetendra and Sridevi numbers too. The challenge was to make this song better without making fun of anyone. I’m happy with the result and I can say that this song is 10 times bigger and grander than the original.”

While Farah managed to make Ajay dance, Tamannaah, according to her, is a fabulous dancer. Ask her if the star’s experience from her films in the south came to aid, and the choreographer says, “For this movie, her south element worked. She was confident and good. I’ve made her dance more and kept Ajay’s steps macho.”

Farah Khan, who choreographed Tathaiya tathaiya in Himmatwala, says she planned macho steps for the non-dancer, Ajay Devgn.
