Finally, the mystery surrounding Barfee will lift a little next week, with the release of its first trailer. However, the makers have decided to keep the film’s lead, Priyanka Chopra’s character Jhilmil, completely under wraps. While PC will join Ranbir Kapoor and Ilena D’Cruz for the film’s
promotions, Jhilmil’s journey and her story will only be revealed closer to the film’s release in September.
As Priyanka Chopra and Ranbir Kapoor shoot for their film Barfee in Punding village, about 20kms from Siliguri, we bring you a glimpse.
“We are taking extra care to keep her character under wraps. Jhimil is a surprise package and she needs to be treated like that. We don’t want to unveil all our cards at once. The first theatrical trailer of our film will establish Barfee (Ranbir) and his character. Every new trailer will show a little more of the film. However, Jhilmil won’t be revealed until the release,” says a source close to the unit.
According to those who have seen the promo, director Anurag Basu has attempted to cleverly conceal PC’s character. While Priyanka will be seen in the trailer, not much will be revealed about her character. “We are sure Priyanka will surprise everyone with her maiden appearance, whenever it happens,” adds the source.

Echoing the source, Shikha Kapur, executive director, marketing, Studios, Disney UTV, says, “Priyanka plays a very special character in Barfee, so we want to keep her mystery intact. In the first trailer, Barfee — played by Ranbir — will be unveiled. We don’t plan to reveal Priyanka until the film releases.” At the moment, the makers are working on the post-production of the film. After a number of reported delays, Barfee is scheduled to be released on September 14. Ranbir reportedly plays the role of a deaf-mute person in the film while Priyanka will be seen as a mentally challenged girl. In addition, south Indian actor Ileana D’Cruz will play the role of the narrator.
