A special promotional activity for Anurag Basu’s Barfi! seems to have made up for Ranbir Kapoor’s lack of dialogue in the movie. The actor has recently sung a song for the film’s promotions called ‘Phataphati’ (Bengali for awesome), the first few lines of which are in Bengali, while the rest is in
Ranbir Kapoor and Ileana D'Cruz are pairing up for the first time in Barfi but share an intense chemistry. Priyanka Chopra is seen in a different avatar.
Anurag and music composer Pritam too have contributed to the track’s vocals.
“The moment Ranbir stepped behind the microphone in the studio, everyone was impressed with his enthusiasm. He had a great time recording it,” says an insider.
The makers have also shot a promotional video for the song, which apparently resembles the format of southern star Dhanush’s sensational number, ‘Kolaveri di’
Confirming the news, Anurag says, “We have recorded a song called ‘Phataphati’. Ranbir has lent his voice for the track and it has turned out very well.”
The actor plays the title role of the deaf-mute character, Barfi, in the film. Therefore, playing the song during the movie’s end credits — which was apparently the initial plan — was no longer a viable option and would prove to be out of character.
“However, as we had already recorded the song and shot the video, we decided to release it at a later stage. It will be available on the Internet today (Tuesday) onwards and will be aired on television later this week as well.”
This isn’t the first time
Ranbir is singing for a film. In the past, he had crooned for a sequence in the Priyanka Chopra-starrer Anjaana Anjaani (2010).
Bollywood actors like Amitabh Bachchan, Akshay Kumar, Sanjay Dutt and Neil Nitin Mukesh are others who have sung for their films.
