Looks like Ranveer Singh will replace his contemporary, Ranbir Kapoor,
in Zoya Akhtar's next film. Apparently, Ranbir and Kareena Kapoor -
real-life cousins - were supposed to play the leads in the movie. But since Ranbir is overbooked till the end of 2013, Ranveer will now play the male lead instead.
"Ranveer has already had a few meetings with Excel Entertainment (the company owned by Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani). Everything seems to be in place for him to be signed up," says an industry insider.
"Zoya wants to start the film towards the end of the year. That's why she is putting everything together to avoid last-minute hiccups."
Incidentally, Kareena too is no longer a part of Zoya's ambitious project. "It's a fantastic storyline about a dysfunctional family. Zoya is kicked about it," adds the insider.
Ranveer is currently busy with Ram Leela and Gunday with Lootera set to open in theatres soon.
"Ranveer only has Shaad Ali's Kill Dil in hand. So he can devote ample time for Zoya's film, in which he has a challenging role," adds the insider. Despite repeated attempts, Farhan and Ritesh couldn't be reached for a comment.
Ranveer Singh turns 28 today. Just three movies old and the actor has already earned pride of place in Bollywood. With Vikramaditya Motwane's Lootera, Ranveer Singh experiments with his screen persona and manages to win over both critics and audience with the new movie.
