Sajid Khan’s Himmatwala, starring Ajay Devgn and south actor Tamanaah, will, in his words, “take you back to a different era”.

The director promises to do so, with the song, Thank God it’s Friday, which will feature Sonakshi Sinha. What’s more, in the song, Sonakshi will don the avatars of
two of the most popular actresses of that era — Parveen Babi and Sridevi.

Sajid admits that although the ’80s were garish in terms of world fashion, these two looks stood out. “Parveen Babi’s look in the song Pyar karne wale from Shaan (1980), was what I had in mind. I consulted designer Manish Malhotra, who created his own version of it. Similarly, Sridevi’s disco look in ChaalBaaz (1989) was inspired by Madonna. We have made Sonakshi’s look similar to these two superstars.”

Ask him if it was necessary to have a disco song in the film and Sajid says, “No, but I wanted one. I’ve been a disco kid and some of my greatest memories are attached with the ’80s.”

Sonakshi, on her part, is clearly thrilled to be a part of the song. “Both my looks are distinct, but stunning. I watched videos of both the songs before shooting,” she says.

She shot to fame even before she was seen on screen. Sonakshi Sinha didn't make headlines just because she was film star Shatrughan Sinha's daughter but also because she made her debut cast was opposite Bollywood biggie Salman Khan in the blockbuster hit Dabangg.
