Madhur Bhandarkar released the first poster of the much-awaited film Heroine on Twitter showing actress Kareena Kapoor in a glam avatar.
If one of the heavyweight Khans has a movie release, you expect a grand premiere with the whole shebang. Those are affairs that get attended by the who’s who of the industry, and are talked about even weeks later.

This time, the red carpet is just as grand, the guest list just as impressive,
but the movie concerned has a female star — Kareena Kapoor. In a first of sorts, a film that rests squarely on the skills and star appeal of a female actor is getting such a grand premiere. A trade source reveals that UTV Motion Pictures, who have produced Madhur Bhandarkar’s Heroine, are planning a glittering event next Thursday, ahead of the film’s release on Friday (September 21, which is, coincidentally, also Kareena’s birthday).

“It’s a big thing for a woman-centric film. Only because Kareena is in the title role can the makers bet on such a grand premiere,” says the source. Almost 300 people from the film fraternity and the corporate world are expected to attend. Here are just a few names from the guest list — filmmakers Karan Johar, Yash Chopra, Ekta Kapoor, Ramesh Sippy; actors Shah Rukh Khan, Akshay Kumar, Salman Khan, Aamir Khan, Hrithik Roshan, Imran Khan, Vidya Balan, Anushka Sharma. “The whole Kapoor family, including Karisma, Ranbir, Randhir, Rishi and Nitu Singh are expected to be there,” the source adds. The makers are yet to confirm this, but iMax Wadala is believed to be the venue. “They are planning something dramatic, so they want a big place,” the source says.

On being contacted, Amar Butala, creative director, studios, Disney-UTV, says, “Heroine has generated a lot of buzz, and people have been inquiring about a premiere. We’re exploring the possibility.”

Bhandarkar adds, “It’s a great idea to have a premiere. We are looking into it, so I can’t reveal much now.”
