Hours before the film releases and a day before the reviews appear, here’s what you can expect from this week’s release(s)…
Tigmanshu Dhulia (Last directed Paan Singh Tomar; 2012)
Starring Irrfan in the lead role, critics declared Paan Singh Tomar one of the best films made last year. It received accolades from almost all quarters.
The film’s music has received a few encouraging reviews, with some calling the album ‘hatke’ and others deeming it ‘limiting’.
A few days ago, the film was given an ‘A’ certificate by the Censor Board. Director Tigmanshu made his discontent very clear. Meanwhile, Jimmy Shergill did his bit by announcing his discomfort with the token sex scene in the film. The leading ladies also inspired a line of clothing, which is available online.
In a first, the Pataudi Palace was apparently opened up for a promotional activity for the film. Soha, whose brother just happens to be the Nawab of Pataudi, claimed she knew nothing about any such development. The makers also planned to host a special screening of the film for a royal family in Gujarat, which is where they shot major portions of the film.
The director of the film, Tigmanshu, is on a roll. After his accolade-winning performance in Gangs Of Wasseypur (2012) and his critically favoured last release, he has developed a fan base that’s genuinely awaiting this film. However, if you haven’t watched the first part, the promos don’t really make you want to catch up.
For the final verdict, look out for Anupama Chopra’s review tomorrow in the Watch & Listen page of Hindustan Times
