Once he is done with his upcoming Eid release, Chennai Express (CE), Shah Rukh Khan might just another exciting assignment on offer. The actor might play a Gujarati don in his next film. Apparently, the superstar has given an “in-principle nod” to director Rahul Dholakia’s (who made Parzania; 2005) yet-untitled next.

“In the film, Shah Rukh is supposed to play a large-hearted Gujarati don. Since the project is in the nascent stages, not many are aware of it. Dholakia has already met Shah Rukh a few times about the film and for narrations,” says an industry insider.

Interestingly, SRK will team up with his Don series makers, Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani (of Excel Entertainment), for Dholakia’s venture. “SRK trusts Farhan and Ritesh’s judgment and vision. Besides, the three of them are good friends. Since he has given his nod just a few days back, things will slowly kick off now,” adds the insider.

In all likelihood, SRK will take up the project next year. “He is currently busy with CE. Then, from September-October onwards, he will start with Farah’s (Khan) Happy New Year (HNY). So it looks like Dholakia’s film will be shot post HNY,” adds the insider. There has been no official announcement yet on SRK’s next after Farah’s musical comedy.

Although insiders feel it’s too early to get into the nitty-gritty, it will be a “fully new experience” for SRK in terms of language and setting. “If all goes well, a major part of the film will be shot in Gujarat. But such details are yet to be finalised since both SRK and Farhan are caught up with CE and Bhaag Milkha Bhaag respectively,” adds the insider.

Dholakia, whose father passed away a few days ago, remained unavailable for a comment, while Ritesh refused to divulge details. He says, “It’s too early to talk about anything. We will make an announcement at the right time.”

Salman Khan might shoot in the state after a gap of 15 years, for Sooraj Barjatya’s next in 2014 (Shalvi Mangaokar reports)
Much has been said about Salman Khan’s next, the Sooraj Barjatya directorial, tentatively titled Bade Bhaiyya. The movie, which is touted to be a remake of this year’s hit Telugu film, Seethamma Vakitlo Sirimalle Chettu, starring Mahesh Babu and Venkatesh, is all set to go on the floors sometime in the middle of next year. We’ve been told that parts of the movie will be shot in Gujarat.

A well-placed source from the industry reveals, “The team will shoot in Gujarat. It’s supposed to be the story of two brothers, but other than Salman, none of the other members of the cast have been finalised so far. All eyes are on this Rajshri production, considering Sooraj and Salman will come together after a gap of 14 years (their last film together was Hum Saath-Saath Hain; 1999).”

And what makes this film even more special is that Salman will return to Gujarat after nearly 15 years. The last time he shot a film in the state was in 1998 (Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam; 1999). The insider says, “In these many years, Salman did go to Gujarat for some movie promotions, but this time he will be shooting there. And the sequences shot in the state will be important to the film."

We’ve also been told that with this movie, the fourth generation of the Barjatyas is all set to enter the film industry. The insider says, “Sooraj’s son, Devaansh, will be the first assistant director on the film, while his father will direct the movie. This will be Devansh’s Bollywood initiation, and it will take forward the family’s filmmaking legacy.”

Since Sooraj is currently out of the country, he remained unavailable for a comment.
