Sonakshi Sinha’s weight gain after her debut film, Dabangg, earned her a lot of flak. But now, as we start seeing a considerably slimmer Sonakshi, co-star Salman reveals that the added weight was for her character in Dabangg 2.

The sequel, directed by Arbaaz Khan, will see Sonakshi play Chulbul Pandey’s (Salman Khan's character) pregnant wife. “Sonakshi could not have the body of a model in the sequel, as she plays a housewife who is three to four months pregnant,” explains Salman Khan. The actor, however, feels sorry that Sonakshi’s weight gain led to her being criticised. And though she has done a few other films, Salman says that he hasn’t found her affected by stardom at all.

So there wasn’t too much of a time gap for me to notice any changes in her. But right from the time she entered the industry, we knew that she is very talented,” says Salman.

Confident about the Dabangg franchise, Salman has already declared the third instalment of the film — a prequel, which, naturally won’t have a love story between the characters played by Salman and Sonakshi. “We are both in Dabangg 3, but we don’t have any scenes together. In the prequel, our characters won’t meet,” says Salman.

Dabangg 2 is set to release on December 21.

Four years after the Aamir Khan-starring blockbuster Ghajini (2008), director AR Murugadoss is all set for his second Bollywood
project — a remake of his own Tamil hit, Thuppaki. While Akshay Kumar was always going to play the role of the male lead, there was some debate over who should play the female lead. But now, it looks like Sonakshi Sinha has beaten the other three actors whose names were being considered for the part.

The makers wanted an actress who looks like a boxer, and whose attitude can match Akshay’s. Ishaqzaade star Parineeti Chopra, Cocktail actor Diana Penty and Kajal Agarwal, who stars alongside Vijay in the Tamil original, were the names in the ring.

An insider says that while “Parineeti was in talks for the role, Diana and Kajal were not very high on the makers’ priority list. Sonakshi was always on Murugadoss’s mind. The idea was to cast a girl who can match Akshay’s machismo with an unapologetic attitude. And she has proved she can do that with the Dabangg series.”

http://www.hindustantimes.com/Images/Popup/2012/6/sonakshi-sinha4.jpgInterestingly, the Thuppakki remake will be Sonakshi’s fourth film with Akshay, after Rowdy Rathore, Joker and the unreleased Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai 2. She also did an item number in Akshay’s hit film, OMG: Oh My God. It’s believed that Akshay also wanted Sonakshi for the role, even though he wasn’t involved with the process. “The casting was Murugadoss’s call. Akshay is friends with Sonakshi and her family, but he has been too busy with Khiladi 786 and the shooting of Boss to participate in these
decisions,” adds the insider.

Shooting for the yet-untitled remake, jointly produced by Akshay’s Hari Om Entertainment and Vipul Shah’s Sunshine Pictures, will begin early next year. The script has apparently been tweaked to suit a pan-Indian audience.

Dabangg 3 to be a prequel
Actor Salman Khan, who is on a promotional spree for his forthcoming movie Dabangg 2, says the third instalment of the franchise will be a prequel to the first film.

"We have our third film ready and it will go back and show how Chulbul Pandey becomes Chulbul Pandey. If the second one becomes a hit, we can go to the third one, which is actually the first one. So Dabangg 3 will be a prequel," said Salman, who plays a corrupt, but kind-hearted cop in the movie. FULL STORY
