Salman Khan to do yet another Southern remake

In Bollywood, the bigger the star, the harder it is for them to keep their projects secret. But Salman Khan, of late, has managed to keep everyone guessing about his next project. His brother Sohail Khan was initially rumoured to be making a film called Sher Khan; then we heard they will work on the remake of a Punjabi film.

Now, however, the Khan brothers have finally made up their minds. It's yet another south remake - this time, of a Chiranjeevi-starrer Telugu hit called Stalin (2006, directed by AR Murugadoss).

Stalin itself was inspired by the Hollywood film Pay It Forward (2000), starring Kevin Spacey and Helen Hunt. The Tollywood version made some changes, such as making the protagonist Stalin a former Indian Army major. Salman's film will retain the ex-army bit, close on the heels of Shah Rukh Khan having played an army officer in Jab Tak Hai Jaan.

Sohail will direct it, but neither he nor Salman want to talk about it yet," says a trade insider. As expected, when Sohail was contacted, he said, "Let's wait for January. Everyone will get to know what I'm working on. Right now, I don't want to say anything." The film might be called Radhe - also the name for Salman's character - a do-gooder who always strives to help others. Salman clearly seems superstitious about the name - his characters in Tere Naam (2003) and Wanted (2009) also had the same name.

"A few days back, Salman got a crew cut hairstyle (typical of army men)," adds the insider. The Khan brothers are, however, making other changes to the script to adapt it for the Bollywood audience. "Salman is aiming for an Eid release (around August)," the insider adds. Once again, superstition seems to be at play, with his last few Eid releases having proved lucky. Radhe might be the second production for Salman's Being Human Foundation Productions (after Chillar Party, 2011).

This won't be the actor's first south remake. Most of his recent hits -Wanted, Ready (2011) and Bodyguard (2011) - have been remakes. His other 2013 project, to be directed and produced by Sajid Nadiadwala, is also a remake of the Ravi Teja-starrer Kick (2009).
