After Wanted and Dabangg, Salman Khan wooed his fans with Bodyguard, which also starred Kareena Kapoor.
Salman Khan is probably better known for throwing punches than for witty one-liners. But in Bodyguard, which releases this Friday, the snappy comments that you’ll hear on-screen apparently came from the star himself, and not the script.

One such off-the-cuff remark, Mujh par ek ehsaan
karna, ki mujh par koi ehsaan naah karna
(do me this one favour, don’t do me any favours), is featured prominently in the film’s TV promos. “Yes, this line is written by Salman himself,” confirms co-producer Atul Agnihotri. “The writers of the film worked with him on TV shows Bigg Boss and Dus Ka Dum, and these lines randomly came up during discussions. Salman always looks for punchlines. Even during casual conversation, he constantly uses these one-liners,” says Atul.

The action star has put on his thinking cap earlier in films like Wanted (2009), where he was heard spouting lines like Ek bar jo maine commitment kar di, uske baad main apni aap ki bhi nahi sunta (Once I commit to something, I don’t even listen to what I say myself). Shiraz Ahmed, who wrote the screenplay for the Prabhu Deva-directed action flick, says, “Salman would sit with us and twist the dialogues. And he was right most of the time.”

As for his 2010 box-office scorer, Dabangg, the star’s brother Arbaaz Khan confirms that the threat, Hum tum mein itna ched karenge ki confuse ho jaoge ki saans kahan se le aur paadein kahan se, (I will make so many holes in you that you will be confused as to from where to breathe and where to fart from) was another Salman original: “He wanted to do something which he would be comfortable in,” Arbaaz adds.
