Indian Premier League (IPL) Season Five is underway. And as she urges Kings XI Punjab to shine, Preity Zinta’s dimples flash. But this year, the actor and
franchise owner is not a permanent fixture in the stands. She’s back in the show business and after a 65-day stint in France, the actor
has another schedule planned to wrap up her home production, Ishkq In Paris: which means missing some games.

“It’s an interior shoot and a big set. We’re filming an item number with Salman Khan, and Isabella Adjani is flying in from France. Even though I was really nervous before the first shot, I realised that acting is like cycling; you don’t forget anything even though it’s been three years,” says Preity, who lost eight kilos before facing the camera again.

Three years ago at the peak of her career, when she stepped away from the arc lights, nothing exciting was coming her way. So when cricket beckoned, she followed her heart. Then, director Prem Raj came to her with a script. “I wanted to do it differently, we started co-writing it, then I decided to act and produce Ishkq In Paris,” says Preity, adding, “This year, lots of new things that I was prepping up for in 2011 are happening. You can expect two more big surprises.”

The buzz is that she’s set to turn director with her next production, but Preity dismisses it, “I didn’t want to take on too much as my plate is full. So no, direction is not one of the surprises.”

Her funny, quirky rom-com is lining up for a September 21 release. Kareena Kapoor’s Heroine opens the week before (September 14) and Rani Mukerji’s Aiyya a week later (September 28). “September is going to be a month for the heroines,” exults Preity, adding, “Rani and I have been lucky for each other in Chori Chori Chupke Chupke (2001) and Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna (2006). I’m happy for both for Kareena and her. I saw Kahaani (2012) and Vidya (Balan) is fantastic and (director) Sujoy Ghosh, amazing. It’s great that content is now queen — a positive sign for my movie.”
