Actor Sonam Kapoor, who will be seen in the remake of Khubsoorat, says it's a contemporary film and the story does not ape the 1980 hit movie. The original Khubsoorat had Rekha in the lead role of a happy-go-lucky girl and she was joined by the likes of Ashok Kumar, Dina Pathak and Rakesh Roshan in the cast.
A typical Hrishikesh Mukherjee movie, Khoobsurat was Rekha's film despite the presence of Rakesh Roshan and Ashok Kumar.
"Honestly, the script of Khubsoorat is extremely contemporary. There's nothing about it that resembles the Hrishikesh Mukherjee film," said Sonam while talking about the film's setting. "We had the rights to the film and we took the character, spirit of the character and have put her in another setting. It is nothing like the old film at all. It's just the essence and charm of the girl that's the same. She comes and changes people's lives. And that was the essence of Khubsoorat," she added.
On comparisons with Rekha, she says, "I don't worry about comparisons. Since I am Anil Kapoor's daughter, I always get compared to someone or the other". The remake is being produced by Sonam's father, actor Anil Kapoor, and Shashanka Ghosh is directing it.
