Arjun Kapoor smiles for the cameras.
How have things changed within the Kapoor household after your success?
Both Anil and Sanju chachu (Sanjay Kapoor) tease me saying, ‘Arrey, you have become a star now. You don’t have time (for us).’

And your cousins — Sonam and Rhea?
They do it too. Of
late, I haven’t had much time to hang out with them. Earlier, I used to make fun of Sonam, but now I understand her dilemma. I would tease her that she was only interested in looking good all the time. But now I know what it feels like. They are all very happy for me.

How close are you to Anil Kapoor?
I admire him. Anil chachu has always been one step ahead of everyone else. A few days ago, he came back (from shooting) and was telling me, ‘You look so good.’ So I said, ‘Chachu, I know you are saying that so I can tell you that you are looking better than me.’ And he started laughing.

Are you in touch with Harsh (Anil’s son) who is assisting Anurag Kashyap in Bombay Velvet?
Yes, I am. He has just come back from America and is enjoying his free time for now. But he is looking forward to working with Anurag. He loves that kind of cinema — the unconventional zone. I am really happy that Harsh has chosen a director, who has a mind of his own to make a different film, yet one with a pan-India appeal. When you work with people you aspire to be like, you pay attention to them. He will be able to hone his skills and craft of whatever he wants to eventually become — actor, writer or director.

Recently, you have gone through some tough times. How has your family helped you?
The best part of having your family members in the industry is that they are your biggest supporters. Sonam went all out to support me through the making of the film and later as well. The kind of help I got from her, Rhea, my sister and all my cousins, made me realise that your family helps you through good, as well as bad, times. I went through a bad phase at a time when my career was also taking off. I remember the emotional strength that was provided to me by my family. They aren’t judgmental. Earlier, I would have time for them but today I am busy, but they won’t hold a grudge against me because of that.

And lastly, are you in talks with Rhea about her next, Herogiri?
I am talking to her about life and food (laughs). But we don’t discuss what she is working on. There has been no serious discussion with me yet. I am going to take it up with her, since she isn’t telling me enough.

Bollywood biggie Anil Kapoor’s daughter Sonam Kapoor made headlines right from the start.
She made her debut along with fellow debutant Ranbir Kapoor and looked ethereal against the dramatic backdrop of Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s noir film Saawariya (2007).
