Tabu's real is Tabassum Hashmi Khan.
For Anubhav Sinha’s Gulab Gang, Tabu is believed to have been approached to play a politician. However, it seems she turned down the role because she wanted the lead role, which is being played by Madhuri Dixit.

“Tabu refused the film because she wanted to play Madhuri’s role of a female
vigilante who heads a group of women who help other women solve their problems,” reveals a source from the film’s unit.

When contacted, Tabu says, “I was approached for the protagonist’s role many years ago. Because of lack of funds, the film never went on the floors. They may have tried to get in touch with me this time, but we haven’t had a fresh meeting. Reports of me wanting Madhuri’s role are baseless.”

Produced under the Benaras Media Works banner, Gulab Gang is a story of a gang of women fighting against social injustice. The film is being directed by former film journalist Soumik Sen and is likely to have Mahie Gill and Shilpa Shukla as part of Madhuri’s gang. It will go on the floors after the monsoon and release next year on Women’s Day.

The source adds, “The politician’s role is just as strong as Madhuri’s. Raveena Tandon, Karisma Kapoor and other actors have also been approached.”

While Sinha is away shooting in Fiji, Soumik confirms he had approached Tabu a while ago. “I will speak to Anubhav and reply,” said Soumik when we spoke to him. However, later, he messaged, saying, “No comments”.

There's something about Madhuri Dixit that keeps her going even today, after spending nearly three decades in Bollywood.
