Director Zoya Akhtar.
A year after her film, Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara (ZNMD) released, pulling in the crowds and subsequently sweeping a number of awards, it was widely speculated that Zoya Akhtar was considering a sequel to the film. But ask the director about part two and she rubbishes the idea, saying, “I’m
sick of being asked to make a sequel. I have nothing to say about that movie (ZNMD) anymore. They’ve (actors Hrithik Roshan, Farhan Akhtar and Abhay Deol) just found themselves. What are they going to do now? Find themselves again?”

The director clarifies that she isn’t against the idea of sequels at all. “Batman (The Dark Knight, 2008) is a great film to have a sequel. I’m not against the idea, but something has to excite me.”

However, Zoya is convinced that her last hit isn’t cut for a sequel. She says, “How boring would it be for me to visit the same space and the same characters again? Talk of the sequel is driving me mad. I can understand it happening six-seven years later when they are at a different period in their lives, but what are they going to do now?”

Ask her what’s next and she says, “I’ve just started writing my next script. It’s only four pages as of now, so it’s way too early to talk about it.”
