After impressing audiences with his acting skills in his debut film, Student Of The Year (2012), Varun Dhawan is trying his hands at a new skill. The young actor, who will start shooting for his father David Dhawan’s Main Tera Hero from May, is taking singing lessons from music trainer Samantha Edwards. Incidentally, the latter has also been training Priyanka Chopra
for a while now.
Varun is making this effort to pull off his on-screen role of a singer in this remake of the south film Kandireega (2011).
“The scene involves Varun singing in a pitch that goes from very high to very low. It might be a small thing, but Varun decided to train so that the singing seems effortless,” says an insider close to the actor.
Interestingly, all this hardwork might also come in handy for another project that Varun will soon begin work on. “It’s a thriller in which he will play a musician. If all goes well, the film might start by the end of this year. We’ve also heard that Varun chose to undergo training on his own. Dhawan Sr. did not ask him to learn. He’s been going for classes for the past couple of weeks. The training will go on till May,” adds the insider.
The actor, however, has no plans of making a singing debut in his films yet. When contacted, Varun refused to divulge details on his vocal training. “The preparation for my father’s film is going good. The script is still being worked on. We both are very excited about this project.”
Main Tera Hero will be produced by Ekta Kapoor and as per rumours, the film will star an established actor in the role of the female lead.
The original film, Kandireega was a Telugu hit directed by Santosh Sivan. It starred actors Ram and Hansika Motwani.
